Green Councillors call for transparency and realism in Futurist debate

25 November 2016

As the fate of Scarborough's Futurist Theatre hangs in the balance, all Councillors are receiving emails on the subject and the local Green Councillors, Dilys Cluer and Mark Vesey, have been taking some pains to reply.  Both also attended the public meeting at the YMCA organised by supporters of the Futurist,  to listen to what was said.

During the public debate at the end, Mark Vesey pointed out that the Council could not legally hand over the theatre to a mere band of enthusiasts but that they would have to form a properly constituted company or trust first.  Dilys Cluer stood up for transparency in all decision making,  and later spoke at Cabinet to ask for the Futurist debate in Council to be in public.

It is likely that the decision about the Futurist will be made at Full Council in February.
